Dr. Osei Adutwum, the Education Minister, has warned that if the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) and Principals of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institutions do not improve their institutions’ performance, they may face closure.

According to him, schools that consistently have a pass rate of zero to ten percent should develop programs that will increase their students’ chances of continuing their studies. He added that shutting down such schools would prevent the government from incurring significant financial losses.

Over the weekend, Dr. Adutwum addressed the members of the Conference of Assisted Senior High Schools (CHASS) and Principals of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in Kumasi, during which he made the call.

Following this the Former Minister of Communications Dr Omane Boamah has questioned the Minister of Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum on the move to close down nonperforming Senior High Schools (SHSs) in Ghana.
In a tweet, Dr Boamah said “Education minister thinking of closing down non-performing schools? How about this non-performing government?
