Ken Agyapong has called for NPP, Akufo-Addo, and Bawumia to issue an apology to Adu Boahen.

Kennedy Agyapong, who serves as a Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has urged for an apology from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) towards Charles Adu Boahen, a former Minister of State at the Finance Ministry.

Additionally, Agyapong believes that President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia should also apologize to Adu Boahen, who was the subject of an investigative documentary by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in late 2022 and was subsequently dismissed.

On March 15, 2023, Agyapong addressed journalists outside the Accra High Court, following the dismissal of a defamation case filed against him by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Agyapong expressed his belief that due to the impact of Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ documentary, the NPP, President Akufo-Addo, and Vice President Bawumia should apologize to Adu Boahen. Agyapong felt that the documentary had unfairly discredited Adu Boahen and caused him to be disgraced.

Agyapong lamented that innocent people should not be sacrificed, and called for the President and Vice President to apologize to Adu Boahen in light of the court’s ruling.

Adu Boahen was dismissed from his position and referred to the Office of the Special Prosecutor after being caught on tape, among others, making false promises to undercover agents. These promises included granting them access to Bawumia in exchange for a fee, as well as accepting dollar gifts from the agents.

Following the release of the documentary titled ‘Galamsey Economy’, Bawumia issued a statement refuting Adu Boahen’s claims. However, the President still relieved Adu Boahen of his position to allow for further investigations into the matter.
