Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the Member of Parliament representing the Assin Central Constituency, has committed to financing the entire construction of an Astro Turf field in Ashaiman and to christen it in memory of Imoro Sherrif, a fallen soldier.
As the Chairman of the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong headed a group to visit the soldier’s family home where he pledged to finance the building of an Astro Turf pitch in Ashaiman in memory of Imoro Sherrif, as well as covering the educational expenses of the soldier’s younger brother up to university level.
The delegation went to the family’s residence on Thursday, March 16 to offer condolences to the mourning relatives after the tragic event that occurred on Saturday, March 4.
On Saturday, March 4, Imoro Sherrif, a Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) trooper, was fatally stabbed after returning to Accra from his base in Sunyani to attend a course. As per a police report, he was attacked by unidentified individuals while returning home from visiting a friend on Friday, March 3.
Following Imoro Sherrif’s tragic death, the Military High Command authorized an intelligence-driven operation on Tuesday, March 7, which resulted in the arrest of approximately 184 individuals by soldiers.
The detainees were then handed over to the Military Police (MP) who subsequently transferred them to the regular police for further processing.
The police conducted their own investigations and subsequently apprehended six individuals suspected to be involved in the killing of Imoro Sherrif, who was laid to rest on Thursday, March 9.
The Minister of Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, accompanied the Committee on their visit to the crime scene situated near Amania Hotel in Ashaiman.
